Tropical Day Bloomers

N. Royal Purple of the trade

N. Royal Purple is a tropical lily with a purple cup then star with green viviparous pads. This is one that is in the trade today. Many of the characteristics are similiar but It is not the same as the original lily that is described below. It is not as rich and deep in color. The one in the trade is most likely a seedling of the original that was grown out and then multiplied by means of viviparous reproduction. As this is the only plant that most people have seen as N. Royal Purple that is what it's name has become synonamous with but it is incorrect.

The original was introduced by Buskirk in 1927. It's publication date is 1939. It's parentage is unknown. Ken has pictures of the true original plant and we will post as soon as he can find it and get it to me.
